Although the summer is the usual time for a full entertainments programme, La Baule organises or hosts many artistic and sporting events throughout the year. La Baule’s Derbys illustrate the resort’s dynamic and convivial sprit. Punctuating the summer season, these olympiads focus on five emblematic disciplines: show jumping, polo, tennis, sailing and golf. The mini-derbies adapted for younger participants, which are held at the same time, enjoy dazzling success. Every year, La Baule hosts sporting events on an international level. The best horse riders in the world open the season with the International showjumping Competition, and then from June the bay is alive with sails for the International Dragons Trophy, a series of unmissable competitive regattas. Golf in La Baule hosts a number of competitions over a longer period but other leisure activities run alongside sport, such as the International bridge Festival, the Rallye Cap La Baule, a collection motorcar event which follows the little roads into the hinterland around La baule, and even the famous literary festival Ecrivains en bord de Mer (Writers at the seaside). On the stage at the Atlantia centre is a programme of cultural events linked to all forms of artistic expression, including theatre, ballet, classical music or review.

Finally, the Pardon de La Baule, celebrated with traditional breton instruments such as the bagpipes and shawm, held every third sunday in August, is a traditional homage to breton folklore
